Ward Village is excited to have signed a 35-year lease with the State of Hawaii to improve the Kewalo Basin Harbor for current and future use. To mark this occasion and the basin’s exciting future, we hosted a community event on August 1 to celebrate the new and exciting venture. And it truly was a community event, with guests ranging from Ward Village owners and tenants, to Honolulu County Development Association staff, the public and operators who use the harbor. Youth from KUPU (a local organization that trains the next generation in natural resource management and energy conservation) and Life 360 helped out by cooking delicious food and staffing the event, and a band crooned to ukulele strums with the ocean as a backdrop. Local surfers joined in on the party, welcomed by event goers. We even had a great raw bar in the hull of an old dingy! It was a great, relaxed vibe made possible by people truly enjoying the evening from the harbor, a promising kickoff for what is to come—a more accessible and safer area for everyone to use and enjoy.
